.............................Sandhill Cranes..............................

Peach colored rivers flow like autumn
moving the freighters of Fertile, MN
The land is wet and brown
full of invisible life
Even the birds sing
under a sky
dripping with rain
grey with cobalt
like Sandhill Cranes
off-loading freighters
Their booms
a tiny monument
in this flat world

Flies

I would like to take this time to tell you of my love for flies. Houseflies, especially. What a wonderful animal that beckons at every window, constantly notifying me of the glorious sunshine that awaits outside. Stuck inside as I may be, I am rewarded with their accompanying buzzing and aimless flights. Their bodily display of mottled black and grey adorns much of my home. The lifeless bodies add a burst of color to my floors. Eventually their crunchy little bodies dry out and turn into a fine dust which I probably inhale with every breath as I write this.
